INERTIMAR II
The project demonstrates that is possible to use waste heat from a combustion engine to decontaminate waste generated in fishing.
In order to solve the problem of the spread of parasites in fishing and carry out good management of the viscera on board, the Fishing Shipowners’ Cooperative of the Port of Vigo, ARVI and the ITG, demonstrated in the first phase of the INERTIMAR project that it is possible to use the residual heat of a combustion engine to decontaminate the waste generated in the fishing park, without generating additional energy costs.

herefore, in this second phase of the project, the objective is to design and build a prototype that adapts to an existing fishing vessel and is easily adaptable to the rest of the fleet. This new prototype will be installed on board one of the Gran Sol vessels, one of the numerous fishing grounds where the presence of the parasite has been detected, and once its operation has been tested in real conditions, the necessary modifications will be made for its optimization.
The final objective is to increase market confidence by collaborating to preserve the quality of fishing by improving the final product, thanks to the development of equipment that allows alternatives in the market to other existing disposal equipment.
Inertimar is funded within the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan and funded by the NextGenerationEU European Fund.
