Hi-Bio 4.0
Hybridization of biotechnology and Industry 4.0 tools in the agri-food industry for the accelerated development of new formulations
The Hi-Bio 4.0 project, “Hybridization of biotechnology and Industry 4.0 tools in the agri-food industry for the accelerated development of new formulations,” aims to develop a modeling platform that facilitates, shortens, and optimizes the biotechnological processes involved in food production. This is done to achieve greater efficiency and, at the same time, ensure higher product quality.
During the project’s execution, subsidized by the Galician Innovation Agency and co-financed through FEDER funds, the implementation of advanced Industry 4.0 tools will be studied, and a new manufacturing process modeling methodology will be developed for the creation of new products based on market inputs. The development of an anti-inflammatory fermented cereal beverage will be used as a use case.

Food trends indicate that in the coming years, there will be a significant increase in the demand for personalized or made-to-order products, targeting specific population sectors and incorporating functional ingredients, i.e., those with a beneficial effect on health. The industry is challenged to meet these demands in an increasingly agile manner, enabling the introduction of innovative products tailored to consumer preferences.
In this context, the Hi-Bio 4.0 research project emerges with the main goal of developing a modeling platform that facilitates, shortens, and optimizes the biotechnological processes involved in food production. The aim is to achieve greater efficiency and, simultaneously, higher product quality.
